According to the New York Post, The US government has proposed for showerheads to have less environmental standards amid complaints from Trump about weak-flowing fixtures.
The shower fixtures would include multiple nozzles that would each be allowed to spray out 2.5 gallons per minute, according to The Department of Energy proposal, which is a standard administered by Congress in 1992.
The Obama administration back in 2013 defined the restrictions to apply to the total flow, although newer shower fixtures came out with multiple nozzles.
Hypothetically if there are a total of four nozzles, the restrictions only allowed 2.5 gallons of water to come out among all four in a minute.
Spokeswoman of Energy Department, Shaylyn Hynes, said the Obama definition of a showerhead interferes with what Congress initially intended, alongside standards of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
If the rule is adopted, she stated, it would allow “Americans — not Washington bureaucrats — to choose what kind of showerheads they have in their homes.”
Prior to the proposal, Trump released a statement about changing the restrictions during a White House event, saying that the water doesn’t flow out fast enough from today’s fixtures.
“So what do you do? You just stand there longer, or you take a shower longer? Because my hair — I don’t know about you, but it has to be perfect,” Trump said.
“People are flushing toilets 10 times, 15 times, as opposed to once,” he told a meeting of small-business leaders.
Consumer and conservation groups believe the proposal is unnecessary and wasteful.
