UPS and FedEx Will Not Be Handling Mail-in and Absentee Ballots

The election season is underway. Yet, in-person voting is not likely since the country is still very-much social distancing. This leaves many concerned, rightfully so.

Social media cried out to United Parcel Service (UPS) and FedEx asking for their assistance in delivering mail-in ballots. But, these private companies are disabled as various laws and regulations that prohibit private delivery companies from handling such things.

“State ballots must be postmarked to be considered valid, and only the USPS has lawful postmarking status,” UPS told Reuters in a statement. “Therefore, UPS, FedEx, and other private parties cannot technically be involved in shipping and handling.”

FedEx put out a very similar statement and advised individuals to check with their “state’s guidelines on absentee voting and deadlines for ballots or related election documents.”

The concern stems from news that broke this week. According to The Post office, there is no guarantee that 46 states and the District of Columbia will receive mail-in ballots in time to be counted in the 2020 election.

Fearing voter fraud, Trump refuses to send additional funding to the Postal Service.

“What we’ve never seen before is a president say, ‘I’m going to try to actively kneecap the Postal Service to discourage voting, and I will be explicit about the reason I’m doing it.’ That’s sort of unheard of,” President Obama said in regards to Trump’s decision.
