Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres says she doesn’t know where the no eye contact rule rumor came from.
During a Monday Zoom call, DeGeneres, 62, addressed the unspoken rule, sources exclusively told Page Six.
“I don’t know where it started,” said DeGeneres, 62. “Please talk to me. Look me in the eye.”
The talk show host called the rule “insane,” and said “It’s crazy, just not true, I don’t know how it started. [It’s] not who I am.”
Last month a former producer of Australia’s Today show revealed the bizarre rule from her appearance on the show in 2013.
“‘She’ll come in, she’ll sit down, she’ll talk to Richard, and then Ellen will leave,'” Neil Breen recalled her staff telling him. “And I sort of said, ‘I can’t look at her?’ I found the whole thing bizarre.”
The source also told the news outlet that DeGeneres has plans to interact more with members of her staff in the show’s upcoming season, which she is excited to get back to.
WarnerMedia is wrapping up its investigation into the show’s recent claims of misconduct among three top executive producers, Ed Glavin and Kevin Leman and co-executive producer Jonathan Norman.
Ellen’s in-house DJ Stephan “tWitch” Boss recently said there has “been love” on the set and has been named co-executive producer, Deadline reported.
