Protests over the police shooting of Jacob Blake turned deadly Tuesday night in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Police said three people were shot, and two of them died. Blake, a Black man, was shot multiple times by a police officer on Sunday.
According to TMZ, demonstrators first gathered near the courthouse. TMZ reported that water bottles, rocks and fireworks were thrown at police, who responded with rubber bullets and tear gas. The crowd then moved several blocks away.
That is where the shootings happened. Video of the scene shows a man carrying a long gun walking down a street. Reports said he had shot someone earlier a few blocks away and was being chased by people trying to stop him. In the video he falls to the ground and fires, and two people are struck and killed.
Additional video shows police vehicles driving past the man afterward as he holds his hands in the air with the weapon visible on his chest. People in the crowd can be heard yelling that he was the shooter. He was not taken into custody at the scene.
As of this report, police had not identified the victims, and no suspect had been announced as arrested. Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, “I feel very confident we’ll have him in a very short time.
