Boca Raton police have arrested a woman on a felony child abuse charge after she allegedly slapped an 11 year old boy following a go kart collision at a Florida amusement park, according to court records.
Haley, 30, and the boy were both driving go karts at the Boomers amusement park on Saturday night when the two karts collided, police say. Court records state that she then confronted the boy in front of several Boomers employees and hit him in the face. Police say she also used a racial slur toward the boy, who is Black, while explaining the slap to onlookers.
When officers arrived, Haley admitted hitting the child, whose injury left him with a swollen eye, according to the records. She denied using a racial slur. Police also charged her with illegal possession of prescription drugs after they say they found a pill bottle on her during a search.
Haley was released on her own recognizance on Monday, Aug. 24. Her public defender had not responded to an email seeking comment on Wednesday. The charges are allegations, and she is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
