Portland Mayor Slams Donald Trump After Man Is Fatally Shot Amid Clash Between BLM Protestors And Trump Supporters: “It’s You Who Have Created the Hate and the Division”

The mayor of Portland, Oregon, is slamming Donald Trump after a man was shot and killed amid a clash between Black Lives Matter Protests and Trump Supporters on Saturday.

“I’d appreciate that the president either supports us or he stays the hell out of the way,” Mayor Ted Wheeler said.

This came after Trump criticized Mayor Wheeler as a “weak and pathetic Democratic mayor” and in a tweet called his supporters in Portland “GREAT PATRIOTS.”

“Portland is a mess, and it has been for many years. If this joke of a mayor doesn’t clean it up, we will go in and do it for them!” Trump said in another tweet Monday.

According to Portland police, a group of hundreds of cars and trucks of Trump supporters traveled through the city for hours to counter the Black Lives Matter protests that have been going on for months, sparked by the death of Geroge Floyd.

Wheeler bashed Trump in a news conference, saying the group in Portland was “supported and energized by the president himself.”

“Do you seriously wonder, Mr. President, why this is the first time in decades that America has seen this level of violence?” Wheeler said. “It’s you who have created the hate and the division.”

Portland Police Chief Chuck Lovell said on Sunday that several arrests were made as there were discrepancies between the two groups. He said it’s unclear if the shooting was directly connected to the protests, and they’re still investigating.

Trump has since called for the national guard to be deployed to Portland to keep order, but Wheeler has declined.

Wheeler denounced the violence on Sunday, saying, “the tragedy of last night cannot be repeated,” and told anyone coming to Portland to “see retribution” to stay out of the city.
