Kanye West’s Presidential Campaign Accused Of Tricking Voters In Attempt To Get Signatures In Virginia

According to two signed affidavits submitted to the State Board of Elections, Kanye West’s presidential campaign has been accused of deceiving voters to collect their signatures in Virginia. 

According to the Washington Post, charges have been filed in Virginia of two people claiming that they were tricked into signing up to be electors for the rapper’s campaign. 

“I am so embarrassed,” Matthan Wilson told the Washington Post. “I don’t want to be an elector for Kanye West. I don’t want to vote for Kanye West. I only like one or two of his songs.” 

Wilson is a 53-year-old high school teacher. He said three people approached him while he was riding his bike and asked if he wanted to join a pool of electors for the state of Virginia. 

He agreed but later realized that electors are appointed by a party – in this case, Kanye’s campaign – and aren’t volunteers. Wilson said he only learned what happened from a reporter who explained that he actually pledged to be an elector for Kanye.

Wilson said he feels that he’s been “cheated” and claims Kanye’s team purposely misled him. 

Another woman, Samantha Durant, also filed an affidavit saying a group of people came up to her about getting “an independent candidate on the ballot.”

Durant said she was also deceived and had no idea that it was for Kanye. 

This comes after Kanye’s campaign was accused of submitting fake signatures in Wisconsin.

Despite the alleged deception, West is still set to appear on the Virginia ballot in November as an independent candidate after submitting a petition with 5,000 signatures. Kanye will also appear on the ballot for Arkansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Vermont, Utah, Minnesota, Tennessee, and Idaho.
