According to CBS Los Angeles, an investigation has been launched after surveillance footage showed bags of mail being dumped in the parking lot of a Glendale spa.
Just outside of 7Q salon, a video showed a Budget box truck backing into its parking lot and unloading several bags pf people’s mail onto the ground. The co-owner of the salon, Lilia Serobian, used her cell phone to record the bags on Thursday. The bags were filled with hundreds of envelopes and packages all from the U.S. Postal Service. “It was completely unusual,” Serobian said. “If they’re taking for their personal use, basically, why’d they have to drop off all the unopened packages somewhere.”
“It happened early in the morning, 5:40, and it was a Budget rental — big truck — that backed up to the parking lot. And they’re like, slowly, one by one, they’re dropping the packages,” said Serobian. According to Glendale Police Department Sgt, the first dumping was reported at 7:30 a.m. in the 1000 block of Allen Avenue. Christian Hauptmann. About two hours later, police received another call regarding dumped mail; the second incident was behind a business in the 1600 block of Glenoaks Boulevard, Hauptmann says.
The U.S. Postal Service has recently been attacked by #DonaldTrump and his administration. Trump recently threatened to defund the service, pulling sorting machines and even removing mail drop off boxes from neighborhoods across the country, in an attempt to stall mail-in voting. Some communities of color in cities like Detroit and Chicago have even been receiving robocalls spreading false information about mail-in voting. All these reasons are why Serobian says the entire ordeal made her very concerned.
A postal service member was sent out to go collect the mail. According to CBS L.A., a spokesperson for the postal service said the agency does not comment on ongoing investigations.
