Dr. Dre’s estranged wife claims the businessman is hiding assets and says he physically abused her during their time together.
#NicoleYoung and Dre have been going through a messy divorce that has led to claims of domestic violence and the alleged covering up of assets amid the former couple ironing out the terms of their divorce. Young filed legal documents alleging Dr. Dre of creating a solely-owned, brand new holding company and transferring into it what she calls joint property, including trademarks for “Dre. Dre” and “The Chronic,” which Young says is the mogul’s way of trying to hide assets that they allegedly both have rights to amid their divorce.
Sources close to Dre told TMZ, “They were married in 1996. Chronic came out in ’92, and Dr. Dre used his name since the ’80s, so it’s all his and his alone.” Young’s filing states that Dre made the arrangements to have the trademarks transferred after he kicked her out of their home before he threatened with a divorce on June 27. But Young ended up filing for divorce two days later.
Young called Dre’s move an “epic failure and reveals the true nature of his character, or lack thereof,” saying that Dre filed the trademark in 1997 when they were already married. In response, Dre said, “It’s the act of a desperate woman who finally realized that the iron-clad prenup she signed doesn’t win her the lottery.” Young has stated that she signed the prenup under duress, she also claims that she ripped it up several years ago while still married, but Dre says that is not true.
In addition, Young says the music mogul physically, emotionally, and financially abused her during their marriage. The woman does not detail any specifics on the times she was abused. Dre’s sources say, “In their 26 years together, there has never been any hint or claim of threatened or actual physical violence, and the insinuation is an insult to actual victims of domestic abuse.” However, Dre says that there was once incident of domestic abuse that happened 30 years ago, that did not involve Young, and Dre “paid the price for it,” TMZ reports.
Dre and Young have been married for 24 years and share two children together. The two are currently going head-to-head in court to hash out their divorce. Young is asking for a little under $2 million a month in spousal support.
