Nearly three weeks after the ambush shooting of two Compton police officers, a suspect has officially been charged in connection to the attempted murder.
According to Daily Mail, Deonte Lee Murray was charged with two counts of willful, deliberate, and premeditated attempted murder of a peace officer and two counts of possession by a felon.
In the incident that occurred on September 12, Murray, 36, is accused of walking up to the officers’ police car and shooting them as they sat outside the Metro Blue Line Station.
Murray was arrested back on September 15, just three days after the shooting. He was taken in after a standoff with SWAT over an alleged carjacking. However, at the time, officials denied that the incident or arrest was linked to the Compton shooting.
But now, the 36-year-old, who is a convicted felon, is facing a maximum sentence of life behind bars if convicted on all charges. In the meantime, his bail has been set at $6.15 million, and he is expected to be arraigned on Wednesday.
