“Stand back and stand by,” was Trump’s message for the white supremacy extremist group known as The Proud boys during Tuesday’s debate. This comment comes as no surprise considering similar statements made during a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, back in 2017, where Trump referred to the white nationalist as “very fine people.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and several other Republican senators are taking a stand to do what Trump has refused to do for most of his term, condemn White Supremacy.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Now, GOP Lawmakers are urging Trump to do the same. When asked about Trump’s decision to refuse to condemn the extremists, McConnell distanced himself from the remarks, and instead aligned himself with those of Tim Cook.

“I want to associate myself with the remarks of Senator Tim Scott that he put out earlier today. I think he said it exactly correctly and that’s exactly how I would express myself on that issue,” he said.

“It is unacceptable not to condemn white supremacists— I condemn white supremacy in the strongest way possible,” stated Mitch McConnell.

In addition to McConnell, dozens of Senate Republicans, including Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett, Sen. Bill Cassidy, Sen. Deb Fischer, Sen. Marsha Blackburn, Sen. Thom Tillis & Sen. Mike Rounds, have all openly called for Trump to forcefully rebuke white supremacy.

“He should unequivocally condemn white supremacy,” Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) said.⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
With the GOP under fire due to the comments made, Trump and the White House have been surprisingly quiet during the turmoil and are yet to issue a statement of clarification.
