Amazon Says 19,816 Of Its Employees Have Contracted COVID-19 Since The Beginning Of The Pandemic

Amazon has been hit hard by the pandemic. The company has reported that nearly 20,000 employees are believed to have contracted COVID-19 between March 1st and September 19th.

The billion-dollar corporation released the shocking stats on Thursday in a report about its testing policies and its response to the coronavirus crisis. The exact number was 19,816 employees who were either confirmed or presumed to have contracted the virus. That is out of the roughly 1.37 million employees across Amazon and Whole Foods Market. These statistics do not include third party delivery drivers.

If you recall, Amazon was catching a lot of heat early on in the pandemic for overworked employees in unsafe conditions that contributed to employees contracting the potentially deadly virus. The company says that they are combating the troubling numbers by conducting thousands of tests daily within its warehouses. By November, they could be administering as any as 50,000 tests daily in 650 facilities.
