SZA took to social media on Sunday to confirm that she did date Drake once upon a time. She also wanted to clarify that the timeline of events in his latest verse doesn’t add up.
In Drake’s verse on 21 Savage and Metro Boomin’s new song “Mr. Right Now,” the rapper, 33, claims that he and SZA were romantically involved in his lyrics, “Yeah, said she wanna f**k to some SZA, wait/’Cause I used to date SZA back in ’08.”
SZA, 29, set the record straight on Twitter, confirming that the two dated back in 2009, not in 2008 like the Canadian rapper says in the song.
I just didn’t want anybody thinking anything underage or creepy was happening . Completely innocent . Lifetimes ago .

“So it was actually 2009 lol… in this case, a year of poetic rap license mattered,” the singer tweeted. “I think he just innocently rhymed 08 w wait. Anybody who really knows me and was around during this time can confirm… it’s all love all peace.”
Why does the distinction matter? SZA didn’t want people thinking Drake was being creepy since she only would have been 17 in 2008.
“I just didn’t want anybody thinking anything underage or creepy was happening. Completely innocent. Lifetimes ago,” she said.
Fans noticed right away that the TDE artist seemed to unfollow Drake on Instagram and assumed she wasn’t happy about the lyrics. But, according to her, it’s “all love and peace” between the two.
