Bill Cosby allegedly kicked a pregnant Lisa Bonet off the set of 1990s Cosby Show spinoff, A Different World.
Bonet’s ex-husband Lenny Kravitz opened up about the incident in his new memoir, Let Love Rule, according to Page Six.
According to Kravitz, after the show’s first season, the actress and the show’s producer Debbie Allen called a meeting with Cosby to let him know about the pregnancy.
“You’re here to tell me you’re pregnant, aren’t you?” he allegedly asked her.
Allen proposed writing the pregnancy into the show by having Denise Huxtable raise the baby on her own with support from friends, and Cosby said he would think about it.
A few days later, he shot the idea down and announced, “Lisa Bonet is pregnant, but Denise Huxtable is not.”
“But from then on, her relationship with Bill was tense and ultimately untenable,” Kravitz wrote in his book.
After giving birth to daughter Zoë, Bonet briefly returned to The Cosby Show but left in 1991, citing creative differences. She was not invited back to participate in the show’s finale.
