Mattel will add a Susan B. Anthony Barbie doll to its list of inspiring women, last week’s decision was perfectly timed with the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment.
On October 1, The National Susan B. Anthony Museum & House in Rochester, New York, revealed the doll, and on Monday, it appeared for the first time on the doll maker company’s website.
“We were delighted that the design team from Mattel reached out to us early in the project, demonstrating their interest in a doll and packaging that would reflect Susan B. Anthony’s life and work,” Deborah L. Hughes, President & CEO of the Anthony Museum, said in a news release.
“You can almost hear her speak, ‘Yes, your honor, I have many things to say.’ She is still telling us to get ‘a citizen’s right to vote,'” Susan B. Anthony biographer Ann Gordon said in the release.
Antony is remembered for her honorable work and achievements for woman suffrage. She is also infamous for her 1872 arrest when she voted in the presidential election. At the time, it was illegal for women to vote. She also condemned slavery and fought to get women admitted into colleges, CNN reports.
The launch also lands on two other significant occasions. This marks the museum’s 75th anniversary and Anthony’s 200th birthday.
The limited-edition doll is dressed in a black and lace dress that touches the floor and is complete with glasses and a cameo brooch. You can buy it for the price of $29.99 on Barbie’s website.
