In April 2015, Tamika, the mother of Ludacris’ young daughter, published a personal essay with MadameNoire describing her experience in the custody case between the two. According to the court outcome reported at the time, Ludacris was awarded custody of their daughter after a brief court battle. The essay was her first extended public account of what happened, and it reflects her point of view only.
Tamika wrote that she and Ludacris had been friends for many years before they became intimate in spring 2013. She said she told him right away when she learned she was pregnant, and that she expected to raise the child as a single mother. She also pushed back on the idea that she was after money or fame, saying that was not why she was drawn to him.
She also wrote that Ludacris asked her to end the pregnancy, saying it could hurt his career and image, and that she decided against it after hearing the baby’s heartbeat at a clinic. According to Tamika, he offered perks such as private jet trips if she agreed. These are her claims as stated in the essay. They have not been confirmed by anyone else, and the essay did not include a response from Ludacris.
Tamika went on to say she feels the court system favors wealthy and famous fathers. She wrote that she was heartbroken about spending time apart from her daughter and that she believed the custody fight was driven by anger toward her instead of concern for the child. Again, that is her description of events.
