Kyle Rittenhouse will not face additional gun charges in his home state of Illinois over his use of the AR-15-style rifle during the deadly Kenosha protests in the neighboring state of Wisconsin that resulted in two dead and one seriously injured.
According to NBC News, Lake County State’s Attorney Mike Nerheim made the announcement after a police investigation determined that the Smith & Wesson .223-caliber rifle the 17-year-old accused killer used “was purchased, stored and used in Wisconsin,” which supposedly proves there is no evidence that Rittenhouse ever “physically possessed” the rifle in Illinois.
Rittenhouse has been charged with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide and a count of attempted intentional homicide and is also facing a misdemeanor charge of underage firearm possession for wielding a semi-automatic rifle.
The teen gunmen is accused of killing Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber and wounding a third man, Gaige P. Grosskreutz, during the Aug. 25th protest. He’s being held at a juvenile detention center in Lake County without bond and is still expected to face a slew of other charges in Wisconsin.
