The Los Angeles Lakers have added another veteran, Luol Deng, to their upcoming roster, securing a 4 year $72 million agreement.
Deng, 31, spent the last 2 years of his career playing for the Miami Heat as a multi position player, specializing as a defensive forward. He averaged 12.3 points and 6 rebounds for the heat last season, which was his lowest since he was a Chicago rookie in the 04-05 season. He finished the regular season on a better note however, averaging 15.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists after the All-Star game.
The Lakers, however, are excited to have him, and feel as though he is in line with Lakers coach Luke Walton’s need for players with “character”. Heat president, Pat Riley said, “He’s a great leader. We love him.”
Deng’s agreement, along with center Timofey Mozgov (four years, $64 million) and guard Jordan Clarkson (four years, $50 million), leaves the Lakers with a little over $12 million left to spend toward next season’s payroll.
I wonder who else will be joining the squad with free agency open.
