GOP Sen. Mitt Romney who voted in Utah spoke to reporters at Capitol Hill on Wednesday. Apparently, his vote did not go to his GOP Partner President Donald Trump, and May have gone to Joe Biden.
When asked, The first-term Republican senator shared his opinion on Trump’s chance of winning.“I’m Not as confident as I was before, I think he’s got better, a better chance than the prognosticators are predicting at this stage. I think I saw a tweet today saying it’s 12 percent chance, someone else said 10 percent chance. I think it’s much more like 40 percent, but time will tell,” Romney told reporters.
Romney was very public with his distaste for President Trump since 2016. Once he became a GOP senator, Romney wasted no time on Capitol Hill speaking out against Trump’s character. In Fact, he was the only Republican who voted to remove Trump from office during his impeachment trial.
“I am aware that there are people in my party and my state who disapprove of my decision, I am sure to hear abuse from the President and his supporters,” Romney said on the Senate floor at the time announcing his vote to remove Trump from office.
This time around he is no longer the lone wolf. Other Republicans have strayed away from endorsing Trump as well.
Maine Sen. Susan Collins, When asked, refused to share her voting decision regarding the president re-election. Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska has also openly spoken against President’s White supremacist fueled agenda and massagist behaviors.
“I think our party is in trouble with young people, increasingly with older people, with minorities, those young people we were in trouble with five years ago are now voting, and so we’ve got some real work to do,” Romney stated.
