Apple is continuing to expand it’s wearable options for consumers with the launch of it’s new AirPods and AirPods Pro. The move also comes as iPhone users are forced to convert to the wireless earbuds as Apple does away with it’s complimentary headphones with newer phone models.
According to Bloomberg, the new regular AirPods will feature a shorter stem and replaceable tips, but will not include noise cancellation. The company is also rumored to be doing away with the stems on the AirPods Pro.
The company will no longer offer wired headphones with it’s iPhones as it continues to push the AirPods, which contributed to the $6.45 billion in Apple’s Wearables, Home and Accessories sales last quarter.
AirPods have been a huge success since being released in 2016. A second generation was released in 2019, which incorporated 50% more talk time, and hands-free “Hey Siri” support. By the end of last year, 60 million units had been sold. The new wave of AirPods can be expected sometime within the first half of 2021. Since their inception, AirPods have inspired other brands to create their own wireless pod headphones. Samsung released it’s Galaxy Buds while Nokia released it’s own rendition. Both inspirations are priced relatively lower than AirPods, which start at $159.
