Wesley Snipes Takes Accountability For Tax Evasion Conviction; “I Made Decisions. I Accept The Ramifications Of Those Decisions”

Actor Wesley Snipes recently sat down with The Guardian, where he reflected on becoming a “better person” and a “clearer person” following his prison stint for tax evasion.

“I hope I came out a better person,” he said. “I came out a clearer person. Clearer on my values, clearer on my purpose, clearer about my relationship with my ancestors and the great god and the great goddess above, and clearer on what I was going to do once I had my freedom back.”

Back in 2008, the “Blade” star was sentenced to three years in prison and hit with a $5 million fine for failing to file millions of dollars worth of tax returns. Snipes lost his appeal against conviction and was sent to prison in December 2010. He was released in April 2013 after serving two and a half years.

Despite his career and finances taking a huge hit, Snipes does not fault others for his tax woes. He takes full responsibility for the actions that led him to prison.  

“I made decisions. I accept the ramifications of those decisions. No one forced me to take that person as my accountant; no one forced me to take that person as my lawyer. No one forced me to believe what they were saying. That was on me. I don’t have time to sit back and say I was wronged and recapture all that was lost.”

The 58-year-old added “I’ve gained so much more. I understand so much more. And if two and a half years of my life were in meditation and isolation up at that camp out of the 100 I plan on living, good deal. Good deal.”
