DaBaby posted a public tribute to his older brother Glen Johnson on social media yesterday after he took his own life in Charlotte, North Carolina.

According to The Daily Mail, DaBaby updated his bio on Instagram with the words “LONG LIVE MY BROTHER” alongside a black heart emoji and a white dove emoji after news broke that Johnson, his older brother, had taken his own life with a self inflicted gunshot wound.

Earlier in the day Johnson had posted a video of himself where he appeared visibly upset and crying, with a gun in a vehicle. TMZ reported that Johnson claimed in the video that he had been wronged repeatedly and sources told the website that shortly after that post he shot himself in the head and died.

Earlier in the day, DaBaby had posted photos on Instagram of himself in Charlotte working on bringing voters to the polls as part of his commitment to the #NOCAP2020 project. Later in the evening, however, he posted a brief video of himself with his niece on his Instagram story with the words “Niecey Pooh” and the emojis 💝 🤞🏽and a photo of song lyrics from his 2019 lead single Intro from his second studio album Kirk which referenced his brothers struggles.

“My brother be thinkin’ that we don’t love him and let him struggle like we ain’t family, Like I won’t give up all I got to see you happy.”
