Paris Hospitals Near Capacity As Coronavirus Cases Rise

At the end of October, President Emmanuel Macron announced a national lockdown for a month. The president shut down restaurants and non-essential stores, allowing schools to remain open.

While the nation of France is in a partial lockdown, cases continue to rise. Hospitalizations are up, sending hospitals into overdrive while at 92% capacity. There are 1,050 patients suffering from COVID-19 in the intensive care unit. There are more than 27,000 people in hospitals across France with COVID-19 patients occupying 80% of ICU beds, according to the public health agency.

Everyone is not happy about the national lockdown.

“The lockdown ruins small businesses. People will lose their business,” said Bruno Soubirous, a professional from Lourdes.

“The idea of lockdown is more depressing than the lockdown itself,” said Karin Soubirous a resident of Mont-de-Marsan.

France has 1.5 million confirmed cases and 38,674 deaths.
