Tropical Depression Eta is expected to turn into a tropical storm; experts predict that South Florida will see landfall on Sunday or Monday.

According to Boca News Now, the storm trekked through the Caribbean waters, and at this time, there are warnings for the Cayman Islands and Cuba.

South Floridians, including those in the Florida Keys, may be impacted by high winds, heavy rainfall, and flash flooding. The Bahamas have also been placed on alert.

Meteorologists hope to know more by late Friday, saying that there is a possibility for a tropical storm or hurricane.

On Friday at 4 PM, the National Hurricane Center reported that the storm was 375 miles from the Grand Cayman and 115 east of Belize with winds at 35 MPH. It is moving northeast at 7 MPH.

Experts believe it will gain strength as it travels, adding that it is likely that it will reemerge into a tropical storm by this weekend and into Sunday.

Forecasters in the Cayman Islands have warned residents of a storm, while Cuba has issued a tropical storm warning for six provinces. The Cayman Islands may see landfall Saturday, Cuba may see it Saturday night and Sunday.

“Although the details of the future track and intensity of Eta are uncertain, there is an increasing risk of impacts from wind and rainfall in portions of the Cayman Islands, Cuba, southern Florida and the Florida Keys this weekend and early next week,” forecasters said. The NHC anticipates 5-10 inches of rain, with some areas seeing 15 inches in the Florida Keys and South Florida.
