Designers left SNL comedian Leslie Jones hanging recently as she searched for a dress to wear to the premiere of her new movie, “Ghostbusters.” After reaching out to multiple designers for their help in dressing the star, no one responded. So, jones did what every angry celebrity does, and took to Twitter to share her dismay with the world. And the world agreed.
In her first tweet jones said “it’s so funny how there are no designers wanting to help me with a premier dress for movie. Hmmm that will change and I remember everything.”
The tweet got over 3000 likes, 900 retweets, and actually did change things like the comedian predicted.
Not long after, highly influential designer and Project Runway winner, Christian Siriano offered to help Jones design a dress for her premiere
Some of Siriano’s clients include Sarah Jessica Parker, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Victoria Beckham and Christina Hendricks; so it’s safe to say of all the designers who could’ve responded, this one is worthy.
Even though Siriano answered Jones’ dress prayers, the comedian still threatened to put the designers who ignored her requests on blast:
“Hmm what a difference a tweet makes. Should I name the designers that didn’t look out? Put y’all ass on blast. You will not get my love later.”
According to one stylist, the reason the 6 foot comedian couldn’t find a designer, is likely due to her size. Stylist Jessica Paster tells Pret-A-Reporter, “She should have known four to five months ago the date of premiere, and said, ‘I’m not a sample size, I need to go to designers early or buy myself a dress.’ Don’t be blaming designers and saying they don’t like you.”
Another stylist, Jeanne Yang, says, “It’s just pure economics. People have this belief that showrooms and designers have racks and racks of clothing in all sizes. They don’t.”
Either way, I hope she slays her Ghostbusters premiere dress, the way she slayed the naysayers.
