On Tuesday, Rudy Giuliani, President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, appeared in federal court in Pennsylvania to argue the Trump campaign’s lawsuit asking the court to throw out votes in a state that President elect Joe Biden won.
Giuliani told U.S. District Judge Matthew Brann that campaign observers were either kept out of the ballot count or told to stand so far away that they could not properly see the ballots. He showed the court images of observer arrangements in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh and described the situation as “widespread, nationwide voter fraud,” according to news reports of the hearing.
Giuliani joined the case late, after two sets of campaign lawyers stepped away over the past week. He also argued that Democratic run areas counted votes in ways that did not follow state requirements, and pointed to big cities in particular.
Mark Aronchick, a lawyer for several of the counties named in the suit, called the request to disqualify roughly 700,000 ballots disgraceful and asked the judge to dismiss the case.
Separately, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court has ruled that county election officials can decide how far observers must stand from counting areas, as long as observers are allowed in the room while the count takes place, CNBC reported.
The campaign has filed a string of lawsuits since Election Day, and reporting at the time noted that it had not presented evidence of fraud on the scale Giuliani described. Baller Alert will keep you posted as this one moves forward.
