Producers Of Drake ‘Homecoming’ Docoumentary Consider Legal Action

Just last week Drake denounced any involvement in a film chronicling the moments just before he signed to Cash Money Records. Well, apparently that has put a bad taste in the mouths of those producing the film and they are considering considering suing him for libel to the tune of $15 million. Whoa!

The film’s producers tell LA Times, Drake is involved with the film, no matter how small it is. Here’s how it breaks down. Drake allegedly signed a contract with Serious Entertainment that included an agreement for the film.  Serious Entertainment are the promoters  who put together the Homecoming concert that the documentary is focused around. They were eventually able to bring Attack Media Group and James Prince’s Rap-A-Lot Records on board for a separate DVD and audio deal, hence their logos all over the film’s official website and the exclusive interviews that can be found through out the documentary. Drake was paid $15,000 cash and promised 15% royalties, according to the contract.

$15,000? I’m sure had Drake known he’d be as big as he is now he would have requested more. Oh well, this is what happens when you sign over your likeness. Serious Entertainment says that they’ve approached Drake and Cash Money several times, offering an opportunity to buy back the footage, but they declined. So rather than spend the money, he shoots down the film to his social media following.

“We can drag him into a stadium tomorrow if we wanted to,”  co-executive producer Mark Berry told the LA Times. “Personally, I think he should honor his commitments. Even if he does a show and the proceeds go to charity, doesn’t matter to us.

“Bottom line is, you signed a contract,” he continued. “You got to honor it.”

There’s some other gems in the LA Times piece, including Lil Wayne initially thinking Drake sucks and why the producers and promoter brokered a deal without Drake there. Read all of that HERE.

Do you think they have a case? Is Drake’s tweet considered libel?
