George Clooney gifted his 14 best friends s$1 million each.
Imagine your bestie presenting you with a check for $1 million just because y’all are best friends. That’s the reality of longtime actor George Clooney’s 14 friends. In a new interview with GQ magazine, the 59-year-old Oscar-winner details why he dropped each of his friends a milli. “I just thought basically if I get hit by a bus, they’re all in the will. So why the f–-k am I waiting to get hit by a bus?” said the actor.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about Clooney’s generous gift; the rumor began circling around back in 2013. What people may not know is that he planned on giving them the $1 million gift, but it was a struggle finding the money in cash. He ended up finding a location in downtown Los Angeles, Page Six reports. The actor wouldn’t reveal that place that allowed him to transfer out $14 million in cash but he did detail how he carried it away in a rented, dingy van with the word “Florist” written on it. Like, the true movie star he is, he walked away with it in 14 luxury luggage bags.
“I packed in a million bucks, cash, which isn’t as much as you think it is, weight-wise, into these Tumi bags,” Clooney said. He said only his assistant and a couple of security guys that were sh–ting themselves” knew about what he was doing.
The next day, he invited his friends over, and “I just held up a map, and I just pointed to all the places I got to go in the world and all the things I’ve gotten to see because of them. And I said, ‘How do you repay people like that?’” “And I said, ‘Oh, well: How about a million bucks?’ ”
He adds that it was their dedication as friends and their support of him that made him want to pay them back for all they’d done over the years. “I was a single guy. All of us were aging. I was 52 or something. And most of my friends are older than me,” he said. “And I thought, what I do have are these guys . . . I’ve slept on their couches when I was broke. They loaned me money when I was broke. They helped me when I needed help over the years . . . And I thought, you know, without them I don’t have any of this.”
