Colts quarterback Andrew Luck is about to get paid big time. As announced by Jim Irsay, the team’s owner, on Twitter earlier today, Luck has signed the “biggest contract in NFL history”, a $140 million deal that will keep him in Indy through the 2021 season. With his new contract extension, Luck will officially surpass Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco to become the highest paid player in the NFL. His new $140 million contract is for 6 years and comes with $87 million in guaranteed money, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
“I am thrilled and excited to continue with this great organization,” Luck said in a statement. “I am thankful to the Irsay family and Mr. Irsay for providing me with this great opportunity and the trust that they’ve shown in me. I can’t wait for this season to start.”
Despite Luck’s history with injury and his struggles on the field this past season, the Colts clearly have a lot of faith in their number-one-draft-pick quarterback. Luck previously led his team to the NFL playoffs in his first three seasons and to the AFC Championship in 2015.
Congrats to Andrew Luck on the huge deal!
