North Carolina College Student Dead Two Months After Leaving Campus To Self-Isolate

A student at Livingstone College in North Carolina has lost her life due to complications related to the coronavirus.

According to the college, senior, Jamesha Waddell, 23, died Thursday morning after being admitted into an intensive care unit.

Originally sent home on Sept. 19 to self-isolate, her condition worsened, eventually causing her to be hospitalized.

“Our prayers and heartfelt condolences are extended to the Waddell family and her loved ones during this very difficult time. However, we should be reminded that earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal,” Livingston College President Jimmy R. Jenkins Sr. said in a statement.

Remembered as “the life of the school,” a balloon release was held in honor of her death on Friday.

“Obviously, she was well-known and loved,” Anthony J. Davis, the senior vice president, and chief operating officer for Livingstone College, said. “To know her was to love her. She was someone who would light up a room.”

Waddell’s cousin told a local news station that other family members also contracted the virus.

In the wake of Waddell’s death, Congresswoman, Rep. Alma Adams, urges people to take this pandemic seriously.

According to the New York Times database, reported by People, “As of Friday, there have been more than 11,883,100 cases of COVID-19 and 253,200 deaths from coronavirus-related illnesses in the United States.”
