A Florida high school special education teacher, soccer coach and church youth director has been charged with 408 counts of possessing child pornography, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Grady Judd said investigators found hundreds of illegal images on the phone of Shawn, 46, who taught at Lakeland High School. The New York Post reported that investigators do not believe he made the images or that he personally harmed a child.
The school district said it was shocked and disgusted by the charges, and that it is cooperating with the investigation and moving to terminate his employment. First United Methodist Church in Bartow, where he served as youth director, said it placed him on unpaid administrative leave after his arrest and that it has no knowledge of any inappropriate conduct involving anyone at the church.
He is being held on a $2 million bail. A charge is an allegation, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. A response from Shawn was not available at the time of this report.
