During the Cleveland Browns’ first game of the season, starting quarterback RG3 suffered a shoulder injury. What Griffin initially shrugged off as a sprain turned out to be much more serious. As the team announced on Monday, an MRI revealed that Griffin has a fractured coracoid bone in his left shoulder, which will place him on the injured reserve.
Griffin suffered the injury late in the fourth quarter of the game after getting hit by Eagles cornerback Jalen Mills as he was running out of bounds. The injury capped off a less than stellar day for the quarterback, who only completed 12 of 26 passes and threw an interception. The Browns ended up losing to the Eagles 29-10.
RG3 will be re-examined by doctors in a few weeks but is not allowed to return until at least November. Under the league’s new IR rules, one player per team is allowed to come off the reserve during the season but he must sit out for at least eight weeks.
In RG3’s absence, the Browns will be looking to backup quarterback Josh McCown to get the job done.
