In his first television interview since Election Day, Donald Trump appeared by phone with Fox News’s Maria Bartiromo on Sunday. During the interview, he expressed his regret in endorsing Republican Governor Brian Kemp.
“Everything has to be approved by the legislature, and they had judges making deals, and they had electoral officials making deals like this character in Georgia who’s a disaster,” Trump began his rant, speaking of Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. Raffensperger has defended the integrity of the election, much to Trump’s chagrin.
“And the governor’s done nothing. He’s done absolutely nothing,” he said of Kemp. “I’m ashamed that I endorsed him. But look what’s going on. It’s so terrible.”
Joe Biden leads Trump by more than 12,000 votes in Georgia, which the state-certified last week. According to The Hill, Kemp signed off on the certification, which would allow Trump to proceed with any legal challenges.
Trump continued pushing baseless claims that the election was rigged against him. And that alleged voter fraud is why Biden beat him. He also railed against the use of the Dominion Voting System.
Some Republicans worry that Trump’s rhetoric will discourage his supporters from participating in the Senate races in January. In Georgia, Republican Senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler face a highly anticipated runoff against John Ossoff and Raphael Warnock.
