Maryland Authorities Found and Stopped A COVID-Positive Child From Boarding A Flight

Health officials and law enforcement worked together to find a COVID-positive child that was trying to board a flight in Baltimore, Maryland, over the Thanksgiving holiday.

The search took less than an hour. State police Sgt. Travis Nelson told CNN that the state police reached out to the Maryland Transportation Authority and gave them the family’s departure time, destination, and names.

The Wicomico County Health Department said it had information that the mother and son planned to travel to Puerto Rico and could not be reached.

“We immediately got the information for the mother and child and relayed that to the Maryland Transportation Authority police to begin to find the mother and child,” Nelson stated.

“Under an hour,” Nelson said. “Never got on the plane, no significant exposure there or anything like that.”

According to CNN, the family was sent home with an isolation order for the 9-year-old boy and a quarantine order for his mother. Nelson also stated that they don’t believe the mother knew that her son had tested positive for the coronavirus.

The identities of the individuals have not been released.
