We’ve waited long enough for the sequel to Will Smith’s classic “Independence Day” but without Big Willy as the star, will the film be any good?
Reports say that “Survivor’s Remorse” star Jessie Usher will take the lead as the son of Will Smith’s character (who is not returning in this film), alongside Jeff Goldblum (returning character) and Liam Hemsworth. Director-producer Roland Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin will also return.
The film is set to premiere on June 24, 2016, nearly 20 years from the premiere of it’s predecessor in 1996. Sidenote: Can you believe there are adults walking around that weren’t born when the first Independence Day came out? Way to make me feel old!
Jessie Usher is a great actor and he’s got spunk similar to a young Will Smith. I’m excited to see what he brings to the role as Will’s son and how they tie this all together. Considering we’re dealing with the same directors, this may not be too bad.
