Fort Lauderdale Airport Launching Covid-19 Testing Site

On Wednesday, Travelers at one major South Florida airport will get a chance to get a Covid-19 test amid the ongoing pandemic.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport officials said they’re launching the testing site for passengers who can provide proof of upcoming travel plans from FLL, nearby Miami International Airport, or Palm Beach International Airport.

Celina Saucedo from Broward Health said, “We want to make sure they are safe when they come to our airport and, because of destination requirements, we feel this is a much-needed amenity for our travelers.”

The testing location will be in Terminal 3, pre-security on the lower level near baggage claim. Initial operating hours will be 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

An online appointment system will deliver two test types: a Rapid Antigen test that gives results in 30 minutes and a PCR or saliva swab test with results in 48 hours.

Although the PCR test is $99, the antigen test will cost $69.

The testing site partners are Spirit Airlines and Nomi Wellness, but all airline passengers will be able to access the testing site.

Gabriella Ibarra from Nomi Health said, “The goal is to protect our family and friends and help stop the spread of COVID.” She added, “You register online, and you will receive a QR code, you wait in line, they scan you, they collect the sample and then email you your results.”

At the same time, American Airlines offers at-home test kits for $129 with results that can help travelers avoid quarantines lasting as long as two weeks.
