Rapper Kid Cudi will take on the lead role in the upcoming film adaptation of “Real Life,” the autobiographical novel of author Brandon Taylor. “Real Life” tells of Taylor’s experience as an “introverted, queer, Black scientist in a predominantly white, Midwestern Ph.D. program as he navigates complex friendships, romantic relationships, betrayals, and mercies, all over the course of one weekend.”
In addition to starring in the film, Kid Cudi, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, is also set to produce the film under his Mad Solar production and music management company and Dennis Cummings and Karina Manashil. Bron Studios, which acquired the rights to the novel with Mad Solar, will produce by way of Kevin Turen with their chairman, Aaron L. Gilbert as executive producer. Bron will also assist with the film’s financing, marketing, and sales. Taylor will also be heavily involved, adapting his 2020 Booker Prize-shortlisted novel for the film.
The movie is set to premiere in 2021, though an exact release date and means of release has not been revealed.
