Singer-songwriter Fantasia Barrino is sharing how she dealt with fertility issues for three years before getting pregnant.
Ten percent of women in the United States ages 15 to 44 struggle with getting pregnant or staying pregnant, according to womenshealth.gov. People released an exclusive clip from the latest episode of The Tamron Hall Show, and Barrino opened up about being one of those women who dealt with issues trying to have a child.
“At first, we thought we were going to have to do different things,” said Barrino. ”This is a three-year journey we’ve been on.” She explained that people suggested in vitro fertilization to her and her husband, Kendall Taylor. A doctor that she went to initially told her that one of her fallopian tubes was closed, and then later told her, “now that is open, and the other one is closed,” the singer decided to take a break from trying to conceive. Barrino says the couple wanted to let go and “let God be God.”
“I kid you not, I forgot about it,” the singer tells host Tamron Hall. “And then I woke up one night, and I was just like, ‘Something’s different.’” Barrino says she took six pregnancy tests, and one came back positive. “I was so excited,” Barrino explained. Taylor highlighted that “everybody’s journey is different,” saying he had a feeling it was “gonna happen naturally” for the couple.
“When she threw [the test] at me, I was like, ‘Yo, you playing? Are you serious?’ ” Taylor recalls. “And from that point, it just increased our faith even more.” The couple shared their happy news with the world back in November. This child will be the couple’s first together. Barrino has two children from previous relationships: 9-yea-old Dallas Xavier and 19-year-old Zion. Taylor has a son named Treyshaun.
Congrats to the couple!
