A new report from Business Insider is raising questions about how the Trump campaign spent its money, and the campaign is pushing back hard.
According to Business Insider, which cited a person familiar with the operation, Jared Kushner, a senior adviser to the president, approved the creation of a company called American Made Media Consultants, or AMMC. The outlet reported that the company spent about $617 million, nearly half of the campaign’s roughly $1.26 billion budget.
The source told the outlet that Kushner directed Eric Trump’s wife, Lara, along with John Pence, who is a nephew of Vice President Mike Pence, and campaign CFO Sean Dollman to serve on the company’s board. Business Insider also reported that campaign staffers were kept in the dark about how the company operated, and that the campaign disclosed little about how the money was used.
The Trump campaign disputes the report. Communications director Tim Murtaugh told the outlet that Eric Trump’s wife and John Pence were not paid for their work on the board and that they left to focus on campaign activities. Murtaugh also posted on Twitter that the story is false and that no Trump family members were paid by AMMC.
Baller Alert did not see a response from Kushner in the report. The claims in the story rest on a single unnamed source, so they remain unconfirmed.
