Malik Beasley Pleads Guilty To Pointing Gun At Couple & 13-Year-Old Son

Minnesota Timberwolves player Malik Beasley has pleaded guilty to pointing his gun at a family outside of his home in September.

Beasley pled guilty to one felony count of threats of violence on Monday. As part of his plea deal, Hennepin County prosecutors dropped the felony drug possession charge he was facing. The 24-year-old must complete three years of probation, which will reduce his charge from a felony to a misdemeanor. As of now, there is no word on how much jail time he will have to serve if any, but his lawyer, Steven Haney, said in a statement to ESPN that the sentence will not be more than 120 days and will not begin until after the 2020-21 NBA season.

The incident occurred when a couple and their 13-year-old son were on a Parade of Homes and stopped outside of Beasley’s Plymouth, Minnesota home that he was renting with his soon to be ex-wife Montana Yao. Once the family stopped in front of the NBA star’s home, Beasley pointed a gun at the family. He was charged with violence and drug possession threats while Yao was hit with a drug possession charge.

On Monday, Malik Beasley said that he “could have retreated” during a virtual but that he had learned his lesson, according to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office.

“I was not in my right mind. I’m ready to move on,” he added.

Beasley will be sentenced on February 9th. Yao is due in court on December 29th.
