600,000 Californians May Face Christmas Eve Blackout

Sempra Energy utility is warning over 600,000 Californians that they may have to shut off electricity on Christmas Eve because of a possible wind storm from the Central Valley to the Mexican border. Utility companies have resorted to turning off power lines when threatened with high winds to avoid live wires from sparking fires.

December is usually a wet month for California, but a La Nina in the Pacific Ocean has changed weather patterns.

According to the National Weather Service, a red flag warning has been issued in Ventura and Los Angeles counties and south towards the Mexican border.
