FDA Approves Apple’s AirPods Pro 2 as Hearing Aids for Mild to Moderate Hearing Loss

The Apple AirPods Pro 2 may be able to be controlled by a user clicking their teeth.

First, it was facial recognition, and now Apple wants to give consumers the ability to control the upcoming AirPods Pro 2 with their bodies. According to Tech Radar, the new AirPods may come with some cool yet strange new features and controls like being able to adjust your music playback by touching your face, shaking your head, or clicking your teeth together.

The announcement of the new controls come as Apple recently filed a patent that describes earbuds that are designed to detect input actions within a structure; these structures are parts of your body like your ear, your head, or any other part of your body, the website reports.

In the patent, Apple says “the user may contact an exterior surface of their body, such as the skin on his or her face,” some examples of input actions that were listed included “a user clicking [their] teeth together or clicking [their] tongue,” and shaking their head or moving their arms up and down.

And that’s not all. The patent also describes input actions that can be activated by a user making vocal sounds subvocalizations, which cannot be heard below the normal level of human hearing. The patent also notes that a user would also activate input actions by integrating with objects beyond the user’s body, like by tapping on a table or squeezing another person’s arm.

There is no guarantee that the patent will receive a stamp of approval.
