It is no secret that the coronavirus pandemic took a huge toll on the economy. Hundreds of thousands of people lost their jobs, one individual being Joe Camp.
After a 20-year tenure as a preschool teacher in North Carolina, Camp was laid-off. If this was not enough of a loss, one month later, Camp said goodbye to his father.
“It put me in a dark place,” Camp said recalling both of his tough losses. “But I have a lot of friends and family that just told me to keep sticking in there, keep believing in myself.”
Keeping faith and believing is just what he did, and on the morning of Christmas Eve, he received a Christmas miracle.
“Thursday morning, I went to the store and bought a scratch-off ticket like I usually do,” Camp told NC Lottery. “And I bought two tickets. I didn’t win on the first one, so I tried the second and I scratched it off, and I fell to my knees at the gas pump.”
What Camp discovered was that he had won a $250,000 Gold Rush ticket.
According to People, Camp, who recently accepted a position at a car dealership, is also a father and grandfather and plans to use the money to provide for his family.
“What I plan on doing with my winnings is having a future for my daughter,” Camp said. “I want to get a home because I want to set it up for my family, my grandkids. I want to have something for us. I never had anything, no one passed anything down, and that’s what I want to do,” he went onto say.
