Univ. Of Tennessee-Chattanooga Coach Fired Over Hateful Tweets Aimed at Stacey Abrams

A college football coach has been fired for his racist tweets towards Stacey Abrams.

Chris Malone, former assistant offensive line coach for the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga football team, was fired Thursday after he mocked Abrams in a tweet that said, “Congratulations to the state GA and Fat Albert @staceyabrams because you have truly shown America the true works of cheating in an election, again!!!” Malone’s tweet states, according to Twitter user Chattanooga Holler. “Enjoy the buffet, Big Girl! You earned it!!! Hope the money was good, still not governor!”

Malone tried to delete the tweet he posted Tuesday night during the Georgia senate runoff elections, which heavily involved Abrams—a Georgia governor candidate in 2018, but the damage was done.
The university’s head coach Rusty Wright and athletics director Mark Wharton released a statement on Malone.

“Our football program has a clear set of standards,” Wright said. “Those standards include respecting others. It is a message our players hear daily. It is a standard I will not waiver on. What was posted on social media by a member of my staff is unacceptable and not any part of what I stand for or what Chattanooga Football stands for. Life is bigger than football, and as leaders of young men, we have to set that example, first and foremost. With that said, effectively immediately, that individual is no longer a part of my staff.”

“The sentiments in that post do not represent the values of our football program, our athletics department, or our university,” Wharton added.
Malone once coached at the HBCU Virginia State. He spent the last two seasons at Tennessee-Chattanooga.

Abrams has become a strong political figure after her political activeness regionally and nationally. Her political involvement helped turn Georgia Blue and the victory for Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff’s win.
