House Democrats Set To Bring Forth Articles Of Impeachment Against Trump

On Monday, House Democrats will introduce articles of impeachment against Donald Trump.

According to two aides close to the situation, lawmakers discussed removing Trump from office for his part in Wednesday’s riot at the Capitol.

Democrats accuse him of inciting a riot that took place on his behalf. Over 150 House Democrats—well over half of the caucus—have agreed to the articles of impeachment that was written by Reps. David Cicilline (RI), Ted Lieu (CA), and Jamie Raskin (MD).

The trio focused heavily on the Capitol’s Wednesday breach that involved hundreds of Trump supporters and said Trump was the reason for it.

“This conduct is so grave, and this president presents such a clear and present danger to our democracy, I don’t think you can simply say let’s just wait it out” until the president leaves office,” said Mr. Cicilline in an interview.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA) also is for his impeachment if he doesn’t leave office soon; however, she did not specifically support the articles lawmakers plan to introduce.

According to WSJ, democratic leaders have not scheduled a vote on the issue, and the house remains in recess until after Joe Biden’s January 20 inauguration.

Some lawmakers want to meet next week to carry out the vote and send the articles of impeachment to the Senate. If it goes through, it will be an unprecedented move in the last few days of Trump’s “presidency.”

Some people want to move forward from Wednesday’s madness, including Judd Deere.

“As President Trump said yesterday, this is a time for healing and unity as one nation. A politically motivated impeachment against a president with 12 days remaining in his term will only serve to further divide our great country,” Deere said.

Many Republicans criticized Trump’s response to Wednesday’s events. Still, it’s uncertain who would be on board for his impeachment—or if Democrats would put forth the needed effort to make it happen.
