Some Congressmen Who Fought Off Rioters Still Voted With Trump

On Wednesday, while the House and Senate were certifying Joe Biden’s win, rioters breached the Capitol building.

“The mob literally reached the doors of the House Chamber, and the Police were short-handed,” Rep. Pat Fallon wrote on Facebook.

Inevitably, members of Congress had to get involved in stopping intruders from coming into the chamber. According to The Washington Post, lawmakers Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO), Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), and Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) stayed to assist the police. Republican lawmakers from Texas and Oaklahoma Reps. Troy Nehls, Fallon, Tony Gonzales, and Ronny Jackson Rep. Markwayne Mullin also stayed until moving into a secure location.

“Rep. Tony Gonzalez, Rep Ronny Jackson, Rep Troy Nehls didn’t hesitate!!! We augmented the Police and stood our ground! We will never be intimated by any mob, regardless of their motivations,” Fallon continued.

As you can see in the pictures, furniture was used to barricade the doors of the chamber as rioters were attempting to break-in. Shots were eventually fired, according to Fallon.

But when it was all said and done, some members still remained loyal to Trump by siding with him during the voting.

According to People, Nehls, Fallon, Jackson, and Mullin voted in support of the rioters — to challenge the results in Arizona or Pennsylvania. Gonzales, Crow, Gallego, and Swalwell did not vote in favor of the challenges.

Nehls told People, “We can disagree and protest, but violence is NEVER the answer and must be condemned [sic] in the strongest terms.” Mullin’s, on the other hand, said everyone is to blame for what happened.

“‘We are all to blame,’ he said, naming ‘the media,’ Republicans, Democrats, and ‘those who post the most ridiculous things on social media.'”

Despite it all, President-elect Joe Biden’s victory was certified by Congress. On Jan. 20, he and Kamala Harris will be sworn in as the next President and Vice-President of the United States.
