Amazon will no longer sell QAnon merchandise, and vendors who try to sell related products might be banned.
On Monday, Amazon said it would be pulling all QAnon merchandise from its site. QAnon believers are a group of people who believe Donald Trump was voted into the presidency to save the world from Democrats who they believe are a part of a sophisticated child sex trafficking scheme. The online retailer’s move comes as QAnon members were tied to the domestic terrorist attack on U.S. Capitol, NBC News reports.
Some of the items you could previously find on the website related to QAnon included baseball caps, T-shirts, and other paraphernalia. Other products on the site were self-published books and shirts with Trump’s face on it. The items were all listed by third-party vendors, and many of them were still for sale days after the riots in Washington, D.C.
If someone is caught trying to sell QAnon products, that could be subject to their account being terminated, Amazon said. The company said it prohibits products that “promote, incite, or glorify hate or violence toward any person or group.” Amazon says it will take a few days for all of the items to be removed.
Other e-commerce sites like Etsy and eBay have also banned the items from their sites. “At eBay, we have a strict policy against hate and discrimination to ensure our platform remains a safe, trusted, and inclusive environment for our global community of buyers and sellers,” eBay told NBC News. “Any merchandise glorying violence or hate will be removed from our marketplace, this includes QAnon merchandise.”
Facebook and Twitter are also making moves to remove accounts and comments connected to the conspiracy group.
