Tommy “Tiny” Lister legally changed his name to that of his most notable role — Debo.
TMZ obtained a copy of the late actor’s death certificate, which lists his full legal name as Tommy Debo Lister. His birth name is slated as Thomas Duane Lister Jr.
His manager, Cindy Cowan, tells TMZ he made it official in an L.A. court about six months ago. He felt his fans knew him from him, primarily from the beloved film, Friday. He became famous for his portrayal of the neighborhood bully — Deebo. The film character spells it with two “e’s,” something Lister changed when he chose to make it part of his legal name, opting for one “e.”
Noticeable absent from the death certificate is the cause of death, which is still pending. It was widely circulated at the time of Lister’s death that he was very ill with coronavirus.
Lister died last month at his home. He was 62.
