Nashville Police Arrests Second Suspect In Connection With The Murder Of A 26-Year-Old Nurse

Nashville police have arrested a second suspect in connection to the murder of 26-year-old nurse Caitlyn Marie Kaufman, who was fatally shot while driving to work.

On Tuesday night, James Edward Cowan, 28, was taken into police custody, a month after a warrant for his arrest was issued, according to Metro Nashville Police Department.

He is currently being held on one count of homicide and multiple charges of probation violation.

Cowan was apprehended at an apartment complex in Antioch, Tenn, after undercover detectives

surveilled a car that he was riding in.

When authorities arrested the 28-year-old, they found two pistols, half a pound of marijuana, and five grams of a white powdery substance in the vehicle, People reports.

His arrest comes one month after Devaunte L. Hill, 21, was taken into custody for his connection to Kaufman’s death.

According to a press release, Kaufman was heading to her night shift at St. Thomas West Hospital on Dec.3, 2020, when six shots hit her SUV.

Shortly before 9 p.m., an office spotted what he believed to be a single-car crash. When he approached the vehicle, he found Kaufman inside.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A release on Tuesday revealed that Cowan and Hill knew each other and were placed near the crime scene by investigators’ cell phone data.

Hill is facing homicide and assault charges.
