Video of Texas Police Officer Fatally Shooting An “Emotionally Distressed” Unarmed Black Man Surfaces

Civil Rights attorney Lee Merritt released video footage showing the moments before a Texas police officer fatally shooting a man who was “emotionally distressed.”

The video was released on Wednesday and included the audio of a resident repeatedly saying, “I told you, don’t use a gun,” ABC 7 reported.

Authorities responded to a psychiatric call on Sunday, but when a responding officer arrived on the scene, he was forced to discharge a taser on the victim, who was described as emotionally distressed. The officer then resorted to his gun after the taser was ineffective.

Patrick Lynn Warren, 53, of Killen, Texas, died at the hospital. Warren’s neighbors remember him as a kind man and say he shouldn’t have been shot.

According to the news outlet, the video appears to be edited. However, it does show the Killeen officer at the door before shortly entering the home. The video shows the officer stepping back outside, and then the victim is seen stepping out with his hands in the air.

The actual shooting was not captured on the camera, but the gunshots can be heard on the video audio.

Merritt is representing the family and says, “A mental health call should not be a death sentence.” He is demanding that the officer, a five-year veteran of the police department, be fired and arrested.

Texas Rangers have been called to investigate the incident.
